Band Camp

Today is a our final day of band camp at Wibbler High School.  The temperature has fluctuated between 95 and 100 degree this entire week causing our fair share of odor-related incidents.  We had two students sent home after inhaling our bass clarinet players sock.  The bass clarinet responded by inserting the sock into the bell of one of our student's alto saxes.  I had never seen a student fall as quickly as this, but we used our school trombone's slide to remove the socks for fear of further injury.

We were thankfully able to get our parade sequence learned and even finished the opener of our fall half-time show.  Our half-time show is a great homage to some of the great composers, Stravinsky, Howard Hanson, a wonderful Bach chorale, and Keesha (Not quite sure of the name, but the kids seem to like her).  The song was arranged by one of my flute players and was called Slazy (I cannot quite remember the spelling)?  I believe it's hip-talk for So Lazy.  I'm not as familiar with the lyrics.  I plan to check them out today, but I doubt it'll be a problem.

Anyways, we have our exhibition tonight for all the parents and community.  I invite anyone to come out and see our "Composers Across Time" show.  We look forward to seeing you out at the County Fair tomorrow!

First Post

After recommendations from the band parents, I've decided to start a blog to document the events and other happenings of the Wibbler High School Band.  I'm, Jim Gehry, and this is my 21st year at Wibbler.  I've not taught anywhere else and my wife and I live in the city limits of Wibbler.  Since this blog is not about me, I will move on and talk about the band.

The Wibbler Band has had a long tradition of excellence, participating in numerous parades and countless performances at local nursing homes.  This year, we boast are largest group ever, 42 students enrolled.

This next week we begin our summer band camp in preparation for the parade at our Annual Schuester County Fair on Saturday.  The tradition is for the Wibbler Marching Jackrabbits to open the parade with the school cheer.  This will be the first year with a new cheer and the students are quite excited to debut their creation.

Things are pretty busy around the house and school, so I will try to update this as much as possible, but this'll let you know how the kids are doing.
